Methodology: How the Data Was Collected
The dataset comes from OblongFaceShape.com’s free AI face shape detector, which classifies face shape via photo upload, live camera, or manual measurement entry. Every one of the 51,247 analyses to date contributes an anonymous data point.
A Google MediaPipe FaceLandmarker model maps 478 facial landmark points directly in the browser, calculating four proportions — forehead width, cheekbone width, jawline width, and face length — the same landmark system used in craniofacial anthropometry (Farkas, 1994). A published, transparent formula then classifies each face into one of seven categories.
